Scott’s Burger Shack on Franklin Boulevard is the kind of spot that feels like a longtime neighborhood fixture—rough around the edges and unapologetically straightforward. It’s a fast casual hamburger joint where the focus is clearly on serving fresh, made-to-order burgers without the fuss of indoor dining. There’s no indoor seating here, just a handful of picnic tables outside shaded by the front awning, which means most people are grabbing their food to go. The atmosphere suits a quick lunch or an easy dinner run, especially on warmer days when sitting outside with a burger and fries feels relaxed and low-key.

The menu leans heavily into classic American fast food with a twist of hearty, over-the-top options. Burgers come in all sorts of variations—from the straightforward bacon cheeseburger to stacked combos like the Super Fatboy or the Pastrami Burger combo. The buns hold up well under thick patties and generous toppings, giving the sandwiches a satisfying heft. Sides like chili cheese fries and deep-fried pickles round out the meal, though with a word of caution—some find the chili cheese fries a bit salty and the fried veggies sometimes uneven in size, which speaks to the kind of place this is: solid, no-frills, home-style comfort food.

This shack has been part of the South Sacramento fabric since the early ’80s, and that history shows in the way it serves its locals. It’s a cash-only spot, sticking to its roots even as food trends have moved on, which keeps the experience grounded and authentic. The kitchen actually cooks your burger fresh when you order, so while it’s not the fastest takeout option out there, the wait means a burger that’s hot and customized rather than pulled from a warming tray. If you’re looking for a quick grab-and-go fix on a weekday (they’re only open Monday through Friday), Scott’s fits the bill.

The crowd here tends to be people who grew up around South Sac or anyone wanting a straightforward, unfussy burger done right. Families grabbing a casual Monday lunch, workers stopping in on their break, or couples enjoying a laid-back bite on a sunny afternoon all blend into the easygoing vibe. Given the limited seating, it’s best to visit with a plan to take your food elsewhere or settle into one of the few shaded outdoor tables while the neighborhood hums around you.

The Super Fatboy combo was amazing! A little disappointed about the fried zucchini because they were small in bits and pieces, however, they were good. Chili cheese fries were a bit salty.

The food was really good & fresh. We ordered Hamburgers, Fries & Chicken Strips & it's all made as you order. There is no inside seating, only 3 tables outside. Most orders we saw were "to go". Bummer they are only opened Monday-Friday. We are definitely coming back

Scott's Burger Shack, a staple on Franklin Blvd for many years, serves up respectable burgers and great service. This place is CASH ONLY. If you've lived in South Sac, this is one of those places that you grew up with. The look and feel is the same, it hasn't changed after all these years and that's what keeps me coming back. Only thing different, is the COVID protocols in place - you can't eat at the tables for example. These tough times haven't deterred people from searching for a good burger and that's exactly what you'll find at Scott's.

I just went today with my boyfriend and we loved it! We ordered the triple fatboy combo, a pastrami rueben, a double bacon cheeseburger, and a side of chili cheese fries. It’s cash-only with outside dining. The lady that took our order was really nice and so was the man who handed our order to us. The sandwiches were great!! Like sooo good 10/10!! The buns used on the burgers are really good quality and hold up well and have a lovely bite to them. The burgers themselves were large and delicious!! The pastrami rueben was also super flavorful. The chili cheese fries were decent but not my favorite (I prefer Willie’s) and our fries from the combo could have been a little hotter, but overall we throughly enjoyed this place. We also ordered an iced tea and it came in one of those huge styrofoam cups. So everything is well worth the price.

Scott's been doing right here since '82. Go Scott. It's not fast food! They cook your burger when you order it. Deluxe cheese burger very good. Maybe too much bun, next time the double. That would make it just about perfect. Four tables on the shady side to wait. Everyone I saw got it to go. It takes a little time but there's a reason hes been here since '82.

The quintessential Mom and Pop Burger joint. I had the Jalapeño burger meal and enjoyed it immensely. The fries had a good flavor to them as well. A very good value and a delicious meal. Staff was friendly and I look forward to my next meal at Scott’s.
